The Spring 80G is a critical compression component in the MTR-80L tamping rammer's spring cylinder assembly, absorbing and transferring the impact force generated during compaction operations. This spring works in conjunction with the rammer gearbox to convert the engine's circular motion into powerful downward impacts, delivering 2,850 lbs. of force per blow at 650 blows per minute.

In the MTR-80L's construction, the spring cylinder system relies on proper lubrication and maintenance to prevent excessive wear. Multiquip specifies applying grease to all fittings every 8 hours of operation using Shell Darina EP2 or equivalent. Dust and dirt accumulation around the guide spindle and spring assembly can restrict proper operation and accelerate wear, making the dust protection sleeve critical to spring longevity. When disassembling the rammer for spring replacement, work in a clean, dust-free environment and remove the dust sleeve strap before accessing internal components.
