The trowel arm with lever assembly controls blade pitch adjustment on Multiquip walk-behind trowels, directly affecting finishing quality and concrete surface consistency. This critical component houses the blade pitch adjustment bolt that contacts the lower wear plate on the thrust collar, allowing precise control of blade angle during finishing operations.
Proper trowel arm function is essential for consistent finishing performance. During maintenance inspections, check trowel arms for any bending or damage—even slight bends require immediate replacement to prevent uneven blade wear, perceptible rolling or bouncing motion, and irregular swirl patterns in concrete. The adjustment bolt on the trowel arm lever should maintain 0.10 inch maximum clearance from the lower wear plate when blades are pitched flat, with all adjustment bolts spaced equally to ensure uniform blade pitch across the spider assembly.
Replace trowel arms if you observe blades wearing unevenly, guard ring rocking during operation, or poor finishing quality that persists after blade pitch adjustment. Worn or damaged trowel arm bushings and improper arm fit in the spider assembly are common failure indicators requiring replacement.
