The thrust collar with bushing is a critical component in ride-on trowel spider assemblies that ensures smooth, wobble-free operation and prevents uneven swirls in finished concrete. This heavy-duty assembly maintains proper alignment between the spider and trowel arms during operation.
According to Multiquip service specifications, the thrust collar should be inspected regularly by rotating it on the spider—if flatness varies by more than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm), replacement is required. The integrated bushing also requires inspection: rock the thrust collar on the spider and measure at the O.D.—if tilt exceeds 1/16 inch (1.6 mm), the bushing has worn beyond tolerance and the assembly must be replaced. Worn thrust collar bushings directly contribute to excessive trowel arm movement and poor finish quality.
This assembly works in conjunction with trowel arm bushings and the thrust bearing to maintain precise arm positioning. When trowel arms show more than 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) of vertical travel at the tip, inspect both arm bushings and this thrust collar assembly as part of your troubleshooting procedure.
