The spiral spring assembly is a critical component in the power transmission system of Multiquip tamping rammers, converting the circular motion from the engine into the powerful vertical impact force that compacts soil. This spring works within the oil-bathed spring cylinder to create the 700 blows per minute tamping action that delivers 3,600 lbs. of impact force per blow. When this spring fails or weakens, operators will notice reduced compaction effectiveness, irregular tamping rhythm, or complete loss of impact force despite normal engine operation.

This spring assembly is specifically designed for use with the Yanmar L48V6 and L70V diesel engines found in Multiquip's medium-duty tamping rammer series. The spring cylinder operates within an oil bath lubrication system using approximately 1.7 pt. (800cc) of 10W-30 motor oil, which should be checked through the sight glass at the rear of the tamper foot during regular maintenance intervals.
