The spider assembly is the critical rotating component that connects the trowel blades to the gearbox on walk-behind power trowels. This assembly houses the trowel arms and blade pitch adjustment mechanism, directly controlling blade angle and concrete finishing quality. When the spider assembly becomes worn or damaged, symptoms include uneven blade wear, perceptible rolling or bouncing motion during operation, guard ring rocking, and inconsistent swirl patterns in finished concrete.
According to Multiquip maintenance procedures, the spider assembly's trowel arms must remain straight and properly fitted to maintain consistent blade pitch. The pitch adjustment bolts on each arm should maintain 0.10 inch maximum clearance from the lower wear plate, with all bolts spaced equally. Even slightly bent trowel arms require immediate replacement of the entire assembly to prevent poor finishing results. During blade pitch adjustment procedures, technicians should verify that all arms contact the lower wear plate uniformly and that blades can be pitched flat for floating operations and raised for finishing.
Compatible with the following Multiquip walk-behind trowel models:
- CA4HC
- CA4HM
