The unbalanced mass is the core vibration-generating component inside the front drum assembly of trench rollers, creating the eccentric force required for soil compaction. This precision-machined weight mounts directly to the vibration unit shaft and rotates at high speed to generate the vibrational energy transmitted through the drum to the compaction surface.

During vibration unit maintenance, the housing must be opened to inspect and service internal components including the unbalanced mass. According to Multiquip service procedures, the grease in the vibration housing is consumed after a certain number of operating hours and requires refilling during disassembly. When servicing the vibration unit, technicians remove bearing cap screws to access the internal assembly where the unbalanced mass is mounted. The pinion must be properly installed with blue thread adhesive applied and secured with a spring washer and pinion nut during reassembly.

This component is critical for maintaining proper compaction performance. Wear, damage, or imbalance can cause excessive vibration, reduced compaction efficiency, or premature bearing failure in the drum assembly.

Compatible with the following Multiquip models:

  • RX1575 Trench Roller
