The gearbox input shaft transfers engine power from the continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the trowel's helical worm gear drive gearbox, which rotates the blades and governs rotational speed from 35-225 rpm. Located beneath the engine, this critical shaft receives power via the V-belt pulley drive system engaged by a centrifugal clutch.

Signs of input shaft failure include clutch slipping, sluggish response to engine speed changes, or difficulty rotating the shaft by hand during inspection.
