The gearbox input shaft transfers power from the engine's continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the gearbox in Multiquip HDA Series walk-behind trowels. Located beneath the engine, this shaft receives power via the V-belt pulley drive system and centrifugal clutch, enabling the gearbox to transfer rotational force to the rotor blades. The input shaft works in tandem with the output shaft within the helical worm gear drive gearbox to govern the trowel's rotational speed range of 35-225 rpm.
If you experience clutch slipping, sluggish response to engine speed changes, or the trowel blades fail to rotate properly, worn bearings or a damaged input shaft may be the cause. Per Multiquip troubleshooting procedures, technicians should rotate the input shaft by hand—if the shaft rotates with difficulty, the input shaft bearings require inspection and potential replacement. Regular gearbox oil level checks prior to each use help protect this critical power transfer component.
