The hand clutch control lever engages and disengages the trowel blade rotation on walk-behind power trowels, giving operators precise control over when the blades spin. When squeezed toward the handlebar with your left hand, this lever engages the manual clutch system that transfers power from the engine to the gearbox via the V-belt pulley drive. In a trowel runaway condition where the operator releases the handle, this manual clutch system stops the engine and brings the trowel to a halt—a critical safety feature during concrete finishing operations.

To adjust clutch disengagement, start the trowel and move the throttle lever so the engine runs at 1/4 to 1/3 full speed. Grip the handle firmly and carefully engage the clutch by squeezing the lever toward the handle.
