The throttle shaft assembly controls engine speed and the tamping action of Multiquip rammers. This critical component allows operators to quickly transition between IDLE and FULL OPEN positions, engaging the centrifugal clutch at the proper 4,000 rpm to achieve the rated 680 impacts per minute. Proper throttle control is essential—operating at less than full speed or moving the throttle lever slowly can result in damage to the clutch springs or foot.

The throttle lever on these rammers must be moved quickly from IDLE to FULL OPEN position to prevent clutch damage during engagement. During emergency shutdown procedures, the throttle lever is moved quickly to IDLE before switching the engine to STOP. The MT-74F and MT-74FA models are designed to run at optimum 4,000 rpm, and this assembly ensures precise control of that engine speed for proper tamping performance.
