The spider assembly is the critical rotating component that holds and controls the trowel arms, blades, wear plate, and thrust collar on ride-on power trowels. This right-hand 4-blade configuration ensures proper blade pitch adjustment and uniform concrete finishing performance. When spider bushings wear or trowel arms become damaged, operators will notice uneven blade wear, bouncing during operation, irregular swirl patterns in the concrete, or blades failing to maintain consistent contact with the lower wear plate.

During maintenance inspections, all adjustment bolts should barely make contact with the lower wear plate on the spider (maximum 0.10" clearance), with all alignment bolts spaced equally from the wear plate. The spider assembly should be inspected whenever blades wear unevenly or if the trowel arm bushings show looseness when moved up and down. Each trowel arm attaches to the spider plate with a hex head bolt and Zerk grease fitting for regular lubrication. Bent trowel arms or worn bushings indicate the spider assembly requires immediate attention or replacement to maintain proper finishing quality.
