The horizontal miter shaft is a critical drivetrain component in ride-on power trowel systems, transmitting rotational power from the machine's gearbox to the spider assembly and trowel arms. This precision-machined shaft must maintain exact tolerances to ensure proper blade pitch control and uniform concrete finishing across the entire trowel diameter.

During routine trowel arm maintenance and adjustment procedures, technicians should inspect the miter shaft for wear, scoring, or misalignment. According to Multiquip service procedures, trowel arms must be checked for flatness using a feeler gauge of 0.004 inches (0.10 mm) on all six sides of the hexagonal shaft section. Any deviation in shaft alignment can affect blade angle consistency and finishing quality.
