The drive clutch is a critical component in the Multi-Clutch CVT (continuously variable transmission) system that controls power transfer from the engine to the trowel blades. As engine RPMs increase, this primary clutch closes and forces the drive belt to ride outwards on the sheaves, creating the ratio variation needed for smooth operation. The clutch works in conjunction with the secondary driven clutch to open and close sheaves, enabling variable speed control during concrete finishing operations.

This clutch assembly provides belt protection through integrated centrifugal clutches and works directly with the CV-joint and lower drive pulley to ensure efficient power transfer to the drive shaft. Located under the belt guard assembly, the drive clutch maintains precise timing of the gearboxes without slippage. During belt replacement procedures, technicians must ensure all drive belt remnants are removed from the clutch sheaves and grooves to maintain optimal performance.
