The proximity sensor monitors operator presence and position during remote operation of trench rollers, providing critical safety zone enforcement for infrared and cable control modes. This sensor ensures the machine only operates when the operator maintains the proper distance—minimum 8 feet proximity range with a maximum infrared operating distance of 60 feet according to factory specifications.

During start test procedures, the sensor must remain uncovered when opening the cockpit cover. The shutdown bar indicator lamp will blink if the operator is too close to the roller (closer than the minimum 8-foot proximity range), while the pre-heating indicator lamp confirms proper distance and communication before engine start. The sensor integrates directly with the infrared safety zone system, working in conjunction with the start relay (K2) and timer (K3) to control the 6-second pre-heating sequence before engine start.
