The guide cylinder is a critical component in the Multiquip MTR-80L tamping rammer's internal mechanism, guiding the linear motion of the piston assembly that generates the rammer's powerful 2,850 lbs per blow impact force. This precision-machined cylinder ensures proper alignment and smooth operation of the spring cylinder system during the rammer's 650 blows per minute compaction cycle.

In the MTR-80L construction, the guide cylinder works in conjunction with the grease lubrication system. Multiquip service documentation specifies applying grease to all fittings every 8 hours of operation (Shell Darina EP2 or equivalent) to maintain optimal performance.
