The main spring assembly is a critical component in the MTR-80L tamping rammer's spring cylinder system, converting circular motion into the powerful impact force that compacts soil. This spring system works in conjunction with the gearbox to deliver 2,850 lbs. per blow at 650 blows per minute, enabling the rammer to compact 1,614-2,153 square feet per hour. The spring assembly absorbs and transmits energy from the centrifugal clutch through the drive system to create the tamping action.

The MTR-80L uses a grease lubrication system for the gearbox and spring cylinder, requiring grease application to all fittings every 8 hours of operation using Shell Darina EP2 or equivalent. Regular lubrication maintenance is essential to prevent excessive wear and maintain optimal spring performance. When dismantling for spring replacement, work in a clean, dust-free area as contamination can restrict proper lubrication and cause premature component failure.
