The connecting rod converts circular engine motion into the powerful vertical impact force that drives soil compaction in Multiquip tamping rammers. This critical transmission component links the engine's rotational power to the rammer's reciprocating action, transferring force through the gearbox and spring cylinder to deliver consecutive impacts at the foot assembly. When a connecting rod fails or shows wear, operators typically experience reduced impact force, irregular tamping action, unusual vibration, or complete loss of compaction function.

The oil bath lubrication system in these rammers requires regular monitoring through the oil level sight glass at the rear of the tamper foot.
