This spider assembly is a critical rotating component for ride-on power trowels, supporting and positioning the trowel arms that smooth and finish concrete surfaces. The HHXDF5 assembly mounts directly to the gearbox main shaft and holds trowel arms in precise alignment via bronze bushings, roll pins, and hex head bolts with Zerk grease fittings.

Each trowel arm must maintain exact clearance specifications - no more than 0.005 inches (0.127 mm) variance when checked against a flat surface across all six hex sections. The spider assembly includes adjustment capability to ensure all trowel arms remain properly pitched, with adjustment bolts positioned at 0.10 inch maximum clearance from the lower wear plate. Bronze bushings must be inspected for excessive play (more than 1/8 inch movement indicates replacement is needed). Common failure symptoms include bouncing, uneven swirls in concrete, or the trowel rolling concrete rather than finishing smoothly.

The assembly operates at rotor speeds from 40-170 rpm with blade tip speeds reaching 1,425 fpm across a 91-inch path width. Regular inspection and proper adjustment using tool P/N 9177 ensures optimal finishing performance and prevents premature wear.
