The MT-85 is a complete tamping rammer assembly engineered to deliver 665 impacts per minute at the optimized 4,000 rpm operating speed. This powerful compacting tool applies tremendous consecutive impact forces to soil surfaces for applications including road construction, embankments, reservoir work, and backfilling for gas pipelines, water pipelines, and cable installations. The rammer converts circular motion into impact force at the foot, leveling and uniformly compacting voids between soil particles to increase dry density.

Built around an air-cooled two-cycle gasoline engine with centrifugal clutch engagement, the MT-85 features an oil bath lubrication system requiring approximately 1.7 pints (800cc) of 10W-30 motor oil, monitored through the rear-mounted sight glass. The unit includes a laminated wood foot with tempered steel plate for superior shock absorption, poly fuel tank to prevent rust, and adjustable handle height for operator comfort. The rammer is designed to advance while tamping, with faster advance achieved by pulling back slightly on the handle so the rear of the foot contacts soil first.
