The spring cylinder is a critical component in the oil bath lubrication and power transmission system of Multiquip tamping rammers, converting the circular motion from the centrifugal clutch into the powerful vertical impact force that drives the compaction foot. This assembly works in conjunction with the rammer gearbox to deliver 4,410 lbs of impact force at 670 blows per minute, creating the consecutive impacts necessary for soil compaction in road construction, embankments, pipeline backfilling, and cable installation work.

In the MT-85H tamping rammer, the spring cylinder operates within an oil bath lubrication system that must be monitored through the oil level sight glass at the rear of the tamper foot. Proper spring cylinder function is essential for maintaining the design specification of 665 impacts per minute at the optimal 4,000 rpm engine speed.
