The mast catch assembly is a critical safety component in the electric hoist system that secures the light tower mast during raising and lowering operations. This catch mechanism works in conjunction with the winch control system to ensure controlled vertical movement of the mast sections, preventing uncontrolled cable unwinding and securing the mast at the proper extended or retracted position. The assembly interfaces with the magnetic proximity switches mounted on the vertical mast base that signal when the extension section has been fully retracted or extended.

The LT6KV light tower mast extends in excess of 25 feet and requires proper catch engagement for safe operation.
