The rear drum assembly is a critical compaction component on tandem drum rollers, responsible for surface finishing and achieving specified density in asphalt paving and granular soil compaction applications. This 800718 rear drum houses the complete vibratory exciter assembly, including eccentric weights, hydraulic motor, bearings, and sealed lubrication system that delivers compaction force to the work surface.

During maintenance procedures, the rear drum bearing removal requires jacking the frame at the articulation joint, removing four Allen head screws from the drum support plate cover, and extracting four bolts from the drum support plate itself. The manual notes these bolts may require heating for removal. The drum wall connects to shock mounts and the motor assembly via the drum support plate. All bolt threads must be treated with Loctite 271 during reassembly to ensure secure fastening under vibratory operation. The drum works in tandem with hydraulic motors powered by oil flow from the manifold control valve block.
