This Robin EC-08GH air-cooled, oil-injected two-cycle gasoline engine serves as the complete power unit for the MTR-35W tamping rammer, converting circular motion into the powerful consecutive impacts needed for soil compaction in pipeline backfilling and cable installation work. The engine delivers power through a centrifugal clutch system that engages as engine speed increases, controlled by the throttle lever which regulates both engine speed and tamping action.

The EC-08GH is designed specifically for the demanding applications of tamping rammers, requiring a well-blended fuel mixture of 25 parts unleaded gasoline to 1 part 2-cycle outboard motor oil. This oil-injected two-cycle design provides reliable power for the oil bath lubrication system used in the rammer's gearbox and spring cylinder. The engine features a recoil starting system operated by pulling the starter handle sharply and quickly, then returning it to the starter case before release. Engine operation is controlled by the engine stop switch, which must be in the ON position for starting.
