The paddle shaft is the central rotating component in plaster and mortar mixers that drives the cast paddle blades to mix materials throughout the 12 cubic foot drum. This 49-3/4" shaft connects directly to the clutch mechanism and rotates when engaged, providing the mechanical force needed to blend plaster, mortar, and other compounds to the desired consistency. Proper paddle shaft operation is critical for achieving uniform mixing and preventing material buildup along drum walls.
During routine maintenance and inspection, technicians should verify that paddle blades mounted on the shaft are properly adjusted and not binding against drum side walls, as shown in the EM12M service manual. The paddle shaft assembly includes mounting points for both center and side cast paddle blades, which must be oriented correctly for proper material flow. Engine-end and tow-end paddle configurations differ and must be installed per factory specifications to ensure clockwise rotation when viewed from the mixer's tow end.
This 49-3/4" paddle shaft is designed for heavy-duty commercial mixing applications with batch capacities between 3-1/2 and 4-1/2 bags. Regular inspection of the shaft and paddle assembly ensures consistent mixing performance and extends equipment life.
