Bartell Global Saw & Drill Operation Guide for Contractors

How to Operate a Bartell Global Saw or Drill: A Field Guide for Contractors

Whether you are running a Bartell Global concrete saw, masonry saw, or drill for the first time or bringing a new operator up to speed, this guide covers what you need to know before the blade ever touches the surface. Follow each section in order. Do not skip pre-operation checks.

1. Before You Start

Complete this inspection before every shift. If any item fails, take the machine out of service until the issue is corrected.

  • Confirm the serial number is registered with Bartell Global or an authorized dealer. Unregistered equipment is not covered under warranty.
  • Check the blade or bit for cracks, missing segments, and proper seating. Replace any damaged blade before starting.
  • Inspect all guards and blade covers. Every guard must be in place and secure.
  • Check engine oil level. Low oil will trigger engine shutdown on most models and can cause permanent damage.
  • Check the fuel level. Fill before starting to avoid running the engine lean at the end of a cut.
  • On wet-cutting models, verify the water supply system is connected and flowing correctly before the blade spins.
  • Inspect all bolts, belt covers, and fasteners. Tighten anything that is loose.
  • Clear the cutting path of debris, cords, and bystanders.

2. Setup

Proper setup before the first cut prevents rework and protects the machine.

  • Position the saw or drill on a flat, stable surface whenever possible. On slopes, confirm the machine is rated for that grade before proceeding.
  • Set the blade depth or drill depth to match the job specification. Do not cut deeper than required in a single pass on hard or reinforced material. Make multiple shallow passes instead.
  • If using the optional saw stand, lock all adjustment points before lowering the blade to the work surface.
  • Mark your cut line clearly. A chalk line or straight edge prevents drift and reduces blade wear.
  • On wet-cut models, open the water valve and confirm water is reaching the blade before engaging the engine.
  • Put on all required PPE: safety glasses or face shield, hearing protection, dust mask or respirator rated for silica dust, cut-resistant gloves, and steel-toed boots.

3. Operating the Machine

Starting

  • Set the choke according to the engine temperature, fully closed for a cold start, open or partially open for a warm engine.
  • Engage the throttle to the start position as specified in the engine section of your model's manual.
  • Pull the recoil handle with a firm, steady stroke. Do not let the cord snap back against the housing.
  • Once the engine fires, allow it to warm up for two to three minutes at low idle before engaging the blade.

Cutting or Drilling

  • Bring the engine to full operating speed before the blade or bit contacts the material.
  • Lower the blade into the cut line with steady, controlled pressure. Do not force the blade down.
  • Maintain a consistent forward speed. Moving too fast overloads the blade. Moving too slow causes glazing and excessive heat.
  • Keep both hands on the handles at all times during the cut.
  • Do not make turns or lateral adjustments while the blade is at depth and spinning.
  • If the blade binds, stop forward movement immediately, raise the blade, and inspect before continuing.

Shutdown

  • Raise the blade fully out of the cut before reducing throttle.
  • Allow the engine to idle for one to two minutes before switching off. This cools the engine and prevents fuel system issues.
  • Turn the engine off using the kill switch. Never stop the engine by choking it on a hot machine.

4. Key Safety Points

  • Only qualified, trained operators may run this equipment. The Bartell Global warranty requires equipment to be operated by qualified individuals.
  • Silica dust is a serious health hazard. Always use wet cutting when the material generates silica dust, or use a vacuum extraction system rated for silica.
  • Never remove or bypass blade guards for any reason.
  • Keep bystanders at least 15 feet away from the cutting area.
  • Do not operate in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide.
  • If the blade makes unusual noise or vibration, stop immediately and inspect. Do not continue cutting.

5. After Operation

  • Once the engine is off and the blade has stopped completely, clean water, slurry, and debris from the machine using a brush or low-pressure rinse.
  • Inspect the blade for wear or damage after every use. Log any findings.
  • Check engine oil level again before storing the machine.
  • Store the saw or drill in a dry, protected location. Do not leave it exposed to rain or standing water.
  • If storing for more than 30 days, consult the engine manufacturer's guidelines for fuel stabilization or draining the carburetor.

6. Keep Your Machine Running Right

Consistent maintenance is what separates a machine that lasts one season from one that lasts ten. Follow the service intervals in your Bartell Global owner's manual, keep your warranty registration current, and replace worn parts before they cause downtime on the job.
