Bartell Global Saw Troubleshooting: Common Problems and How to Fix Them

When a saw goes down on the job, every minute counts. Blade Slowing Down or Losing Cutting Power

  • Blade is worn beyond its usable life or wrong spec for the material
  • Engine is not reaching full RPM under load

  • Spindle bearings are worn or seized

What to Inspect and Fix

  • Check blade segment height. If segments are flush with the core, the blade is finished. Replace it.
  • Verify the blade spec matches the material. Using a blade rated for asphalt on hard concrete will kill cutting speed fast.
  • Check belt tension and condition. A glazed or cracked belt will slip under load. Adjust tension per the manual spec or replace the belt.
  • Spin the blade arbor by hand with the machine off. Any roughness or resistance points to bad spindle bearings.
  • Check air filter. A clogged filter starves the engine and drops RPM under load.

Engine Will Not Start

  • Fuel issue: stale fuel, empty tank, or clogged fuel filter
  • Ignition system fault: fouled spark plug or failed ignition coil
  • Choke not set correctly for cold or warm start
  • Safety interlock engaged or faulty

  • Check fuel level and fuel age. Fuel older than 30 days can varnish carb passages. Drain and replace with fresh fuel.
  • Remove and inspect the spark plug. A black, sooty electrode means the engine is running rich. A white electrode means lean. Either way, replace the plug and re-check air and fuel delivery.
  • Check the choke position. Cold starts typically require full choke. Warm restarts need choke open or partially open.
  • Inspect the kill switch and any blade guard interlocks. A faulty switch can ground the ignition and prevent starting even when everything else is correct.

Excessive Vibration During Operation

  • Blade is damaged, cracked, or out of balance
  • Blade arbor flanges are worn or not seating correctly
  • Loose blade arbor bolt
  • Worn engine mounts

  • Check that the arbor flanges are clean, undamaged, and properly torqued. Contamination between the flange and blade face causes runout and vibration.
  • Inspect the engine mount bolts and rubber isolators. Soft or cracked mounts transfer engine vibration directly into the frame.

Water System Not Flowing on Wet-Cut Models

  • Water supply valve is closed or partially closed
  • Clogged water nozzles or delivery tubes
  • Kinked or damaged water hose
  • Failed water pump on electric water supply models

  • Confirm the water supply valve is fully open at both the machine and the source.
  • Remove and flush the water nozzles. Mineral deposits and slurry buildup block flow over time. A short soak in clean water clears most clogs.
  • Trace the hose from the supply to the blade guard. Straighten any kinks and replace sections that are cracked or pinched.
  • On models with an onboard water pump, check that the pump is receiving power and that the inlet filter screen is clear.

Saw Pulling to One Side While Cutting

Possible Causes

  • Blade is not tracking true due to a bent arbor or damaged flanges
  • Uneven blade wear or a blade that is pinching in the cut
  • Frame or guide wheels out of alignment
  • Cutting too deep or too fast for the blade and material combination

What to Inspect and Fix

  • Check the blade for side wear. A blade that is thinner on one side will steer the saw off-line. Replace the blade.
  • Inspect the guide wheels or skid plates for wear. Uneven wheel height causes the saw to track off-angle.
  • Reduce cutting depth and forward speed. Forcing the blade through hard material causes deflection inside the cut slot.
  • Verify the arbor is straight by checking runout with a dial indicator if available. A bent arbor requires professional service.
