Why Maintenance Matters for This Machine

A Multiquip Power Buggy takes hard abuse on job sites. It moves heavy loads of concrete, aggregate, and debris across rough terrain, often in tight spaces, under time pressure. Neglecting routine maintenance leads to accelerated wear on drive components, tub failures, bearing damage, and unplanned downtime. On a concrete pour, a buggy that goes down mid-job is not just a maintenance problem. It is a production problem. Keeping up with the intervals in this guide protects the machine, protects the operator, and keeps the schedule intact.

Daily and Pre-Operation Checks

Before starting any Multiquip Power Buggy, run through the following checks every day without exception. These steps apply across gas, propane, and electric models including the TB11, WBH-16, WBH-21EF, and TB800BAT.

  • Clean the unit. Remove dirt and dust from the engine cooling air inlet, carburetor, and air cleaner before startup. Use dry compressed air on the carburetor exterior.
  • Inspect the air filter. If dirty, replace it. Do not operate with a clogged filter.
  • Check all fastening nuts and bolts for tightness. Vibration loosens hardware over time.
  • Lubricate all zerk fittings. The WBH-16 and WBH-21EF models each have five zerk fittings. Hit all of them with high-grade chassis lubricant before every operating day. Locations include the dump cylinder pivots (two fittings), tub bearing pivot blocks on the underside of the tub (two fittings), and the steering bearing flange on the front side of the handlebar (one fitting).
  • Inspect the tub. Look for cracks, deformations, and concrete buildup that has not been cleared from the previous shift.
  • Check tires. Look for severe cuts or unusual wear patterns. Pneumatic tires on models like the TB11 should be inflated to 28 PSI (193 kPa).
  • Battery check (electric models). On the TB11E and TB800BAT, confirm battery fluid is between the specified marks. Add only distilled water if replenishment is needed. Do not overfill. Check that battery cables are tight and terminals are coated with battery terminal treatment compound. The TB11E uses a BCI Group 27 battery.
  • Speed control return springs. On WBH models, inspect the pump control lever return springs. The tension must be sufficient to snap the lever back when released. Replace any broken or deformed springs before operating.
  • Parking brake. Confirm the parking brake holds. With the brake engaged, the buggy should not move when the engine is started and the travel lever is placed in the forward position.

Safety reminder for gas and propane models: Before any service, place the ON/OFF switch in the OFF position, disconnect and ground the spark plug leads, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Never service a hot engine.

Periodic Maintenance Schedule

Key Service Items

Chassis Lubrication

On WBH-16 and WBH-21EF models, use high-grade chassis lubricant on all five zerk fittings every operating day. The dump cylinder pivot fittings and tub bearing pivot block fittings get the most stress. On TB11 models, the zerk fitting lubrication interval is once per year using lithium base grease, grade No. 1, two shots per fitting.

Wheel Bearings

Remove the rear wheel hubs and repack the bearings every 400 hours of operation on WBH-16 and WBH-21EF models. Running dry or contaminated bearings past this interval causes wheel bearing failure and axle damage.

Drive Chains

TB11 models use drive chains that require lubrication at regular service intervals. Apply chain lubricant to both the front and rear drive chains. Reinstall all access panels and tighten bolts securely after servicing.

Air Filter (Gas and Propane Models)

Check the air filter before each operating day. A dirty air filter restricts airflow to the engine and causes rough running, increased fuel consumption, and accelerated wear. Replace when dirty. Do not attempt to clean and reuse a paper-element filter.

Battery Maintenance (Electric Models)

On the TB11E and TB800BAT, monitor electrolyte levels consistently. Use only distilled water for replenishment. Keep terminals tight and treated. The TB800BAT is a ride-on machine with a maximum payload of 990 lbs. (450 kg) and a top forward speed of 3.8 mph. Battery neglect is the primary cause of premature failure on electric buggies.

Speed Control Return Springs

On all WBH models, these springs are a safety-critical component. If a spring is broken or does not return the lever cleanly, replace it before putting the machine back in service.

Signs It Is Time to Replace Parts

  • Tub cracking or visible deformation. A compromised tub is a structural failure waiting to happen under a full load of concrete. Replace it.
  • Tire sidewall cuts or abnormal wear patterns. A cut sidewall on a pneumatic tire will not hold pressure and can blow out under load on an uneven grade.
  • Speed control lever that does not snap back. This is a control failure and a safety hazard. Replace the return spring immediately.
  • Battery that will not hold a charge or shows low fluid with no obvious cause. A BCI Group 27 battery that fails to reach the specified charge level even after proper maintenance has reached end of service life.
  • Loose or seized zerk fittings. A fitting that will not accept grease means the lubrication point is either blocked or the fitting is damaged. A seized pivot or bearing will follow quickly if this is not corrected.
  • Loose fasteners that recur after tightening. Fasteners that work themselves loose repeatedly indicate worn threads or structural fatigue. Investigate before continuing operation.
