The thrust collar is a critical component in the spider assembly of walk-behind and ride-on power trowels, maintaining proper alignment and stability during concrete finishing operations. A worn or damaged thrust collar causes the trowel to bounce, roll concrete, or create uneven swirls in the finished surface—defects that compromise job quality and require immediate replacement.

According to Multiquip service procedures, the thrust collar must be inspected when finishing issues occur. Check flatness by rotating the collar on the spider—if variation exceeds 0.02 inch (0.5 mm), replacement is required. Additionally, test for excessive play by rocking the collar on the spider; if tilt exceeds 3/32 inch (2.4 mm) measured at the outer diameter, the thrust collar must be replaced to restore proper trowel operation.
