The muffler protector shields the exhaust system components from physical damage and protects operators and nearby equipment from contact with hot muffler surfaces during generator operation. This protective cover must be removed during maintenance procedures such as spark arrestor cleaning and exhaust port inspection, then reinstalled and secured with bolts to ensure safe operation.

According to Multiquip's maintenance guidelines, the muffler protector should be removed when servicing the spark arrestor, which requires cleaning every 6 months or 100 hours—whichever occurs first. During spark arrestor service, technicians inspect the exhaust port duct for insulation deposits that can cause engine stalling. After completing exhaust system maintenance and reinstalling the spark arrestor with its tapping screw, the muffler protector must be properly secured with bolts before returning the generator to service.

This protector is critical for maintaining safe operating temperatures around the muffler/heat shield assembly, which prevents dirt and debris from entering the fuel system during generator operation.
