The right-hand valve assembly without switch controls hydraulic flow to the right spider drive motor on STX-series ride-on power trowels. This valve is critical for maintaining independent speed control of each rotor spider, ensuring proper steering response and preventing uneven blade speeds that make the trowel difficult to control. When one spider spins noticeably faster or slower than the other, or when steering becomes erratic, a faulty valve assembly is often the root cause.

Multiquip maintenance documentation recommends checking trowel speed balance at least once annually, as the two hydraulic drive motors operate independently of each other. The foot pedal controls overall blade speed from idle to maximum RPM, but each valve assembly must function properly to maintain synchronized rotation between left and right spiders.
