The plunger arm is a critical reciprocating component in Multiquip diaphragm pumps that drives the diaphragm to create the pumping action for dewatering applications. This component connects directly to the pump's crankshaft and transfers mechanical motion to the diaphragm retaining plate, which is secured with four nuts torqued to 70 ft-lbs (9.6 kg-m). During operation, the plunger arm makes full strokes to move water, septic waste, and industrial fluids through the pump system.

Replacement or inspection of the plunger arm becomes necessary when the pump experiences jamming from large solids, sand, silt, or sediment accumulation in the pump well. Warning signs include pump stalling, crank slipping on the output shaft, or inability to complete a full stroke. If the lock screw securing the plunger arm is over-torqued, pump jamming can cause internal damage to this component. During maintenance, the plunger arm guard and lock screw must be removed to access the diaphragm assembly. Regular inspection is recommended when pumping heavy debris-laden fluids or after clearing jams from the pump well.
