The vibratory shaft is a critical component in the drum vibration system that generates the centrifugal compaction force required for asphalt and soil compaction operations. This shaft works in conjunction with eccentric weights inside the sealed, grease-filled vibrator housing to produce the high-frequency vibrations necessary for effective material compaction.
In the AR14H roller system, the vibratory mechanism generates 3,400 lbf (15.1 kN) of centrifugal force at 4,200 vibrations per minute (vpm). The shaft operates within a maintenance-free vibrator assembly where hydraulic oil from the gear pump flows through the manifold control valve block to a hydraulic motor, which rotates the eccentric weights mounted on this shaft. The entire assembly is shock-mounted to the drum and frame to isolate vibration energy for optimal compaction performance.
If vibration appears weak or slow, this shaft may require inspection or replacement after allowing the machine to warm up and verifying proper hydraulic oil levels. The vibratory system is controlled via a toggle switch on the travel lever that engages or disengages the compaction action.
