The combination lever assembly controls engine speed and throttle position on Multiquip MTX series tamping rammers, allowing operators to adjust rpm from idle through full start position for optimal compaction performance. This critical control component enables proper engagement of the centrifugal clutch and maintains the factory-specified operating range of 3,800 to 4,100 rpm, delivering 644-695 impacts per minute at optimum performance.

Proper throttle lever operation is essential for preventing clutch spring damage and foot wear. The lever moves through three positions: STOP (which automatically closes the fuel cock), IDLE for engine warm-up and cool-down, and START for full tamping operation. Operating the rammer at less than full speed can result in damage to clutch springs or the tamper foot.
