This hydraulic cylinder drives the concrete pumping action in Multiquip LS-series trailer-mounted concrete pumps by converting pressurized hydraulic oil into the linear force needed to move the concrete pistons through their pumping cycle. Working in conjunction with the hydraulic manifold and proximity switches, these cylinders operate at system pressures up to 1750 PSI to alternately drive cylinders A and B, creating the shuttle tube motion that enables continuous concrete flow. The hydraulic cylinders receive oil from the pump through the main pressure circuit and return low-pressure oil to tank, with accumulator backup ensuring consistent operation during the pumping stroke.

When hydraulic cylinders fail or develop leaks, symptoms include loss of pumping pressure, erratic shuttle tube operation, slow or incomplete piston strokes, and contaminated hydraulic oil.
