Engine Will Not Start

Possible Causes

  • Empty fuel tank or stale fuel left in the system
  • Spark plug fouled, worn, or improperly gapped
  • Air filter clogged with concrete dust or debris
  • Choke not positioned correctly for cold or warm starts
  • Low oil level triggering the low-oil shutoff switch

Screed Leaves an Uneven or Rough Surface Finish

  • Screed blade bent, warped, or worn thin
  • Vibration amplitude too low for the slump of the mix
  • Screed tube not level or operator not maintaining consistent forward speed
  • Concrete mix too dry or too wet for vibratory finishing

What to Check and Fix

  • Lay the screed blade on a flat surface and check for warping. A bent blade will leave ridges regardless of vibration output. Replace damaged blades before the next pour.
  • Adjust vibration settings if the unit has variable amplitude. Higher slump mixes need less vibration; stiffer mixes need more.
  • Move at a steady, consistent pace. Stopping mid-pour or changing speed creates visible surface defects.
  • Work with your batch plant to dial in the correct slump for vibratory screeding, typically between 4 and 6 inches for most flatwork.

Excessive Vibration or Abnormal Noise During Operation

Possible Causes

  • Eccentric weights out of balance or a weight has come loose
  • Vibrator housing cracked or mounting hardware loose
  • Foreign material lodged inside the vibrator housing
  • Worn or damaged bearings creating metal-to-metal contact

What to Check and Fix

  • Shut the machine down immediately if you hear a sudden change in noise or feel abnormal shaking. Operating with a loose weight or damaged bearing can cause rapid component failure.
  • Inspect all vibrator housing bolts and mounting points. Tighten to the torque values listed in the service manual.
  • Remove the housing cover and check for concrete buildup or debris around the shaft and weights. Clean thoroughly before restarting.
  • Replace bearings at the first sign of roughness, noise, or heat buildup. Continuing to run damaged bearings will damage the shaft and housing.
