The square main shaft transmits rotational force from the drive system to the mixing components in Bartell mortar mixers, when this shaft wears, bends, or fails, the mixer loses its ability to blend material properly and must be taken out of service until it is replaced.
This is a heavy-duty square profile shaft measuring 1-3/4 inches across and 38-7/8 inches in length, engineered to the exact dimensional tolerances required for proper fitment and torque transfer in Bartell's electric mortar mixer lineup. A square drive shaft profile is critical in mixer applications because it provides positive engagement with the driven components, unlike round shafts, it cannot slip under load. If a mixer is exhibiting signs of inconsistent drum rotation, unusual vibration, or visible shaft deflection, the main shaft should be inspected for wear or deformation and replaced if out of spec.
When servicing this component, ensure all mating drive components, including any couplers, keys, or bearings riding on the shaft, are also inspected for wear before reinstallation. Reusing worn mating parts against a new shaft will accelerate wear and shorten service life.
